ROCKIN' DEMOCRACY ROCKED

What an awesome day in Sunset Beach! A tremendous event in a beautiful setting. BEAT was in full force as we had over 20 volunteers who helped in one way or another.

Special thanks go out to the Rockin' Democracy Steering Committee who spent the last 7 months pulling together this first of a kind event ever in Brunswick County. Special kudos to Melissa Slaven Warren who had the vision and leadership to pull off this special event and to the Steering Committee members of Karen Joseph, Linda Rudick, Dwight Frederick Willis, Nonnie Nonnie, Tom Goodwin, Neil Gilbert, and Lisa Mosca.

Jill Brown and her Hot Flash and Friends provided fantastic entertainment all day long. There were three awesome bands (also Tatum Hayden Bluegrass and Soul and Tesconpol) and Jill's crew provided a professional sound system and engineer for the entire day.

Fourteen terrific speakers representing three different political parties shared what democracy means to them. Speakers included Deb Butler, Allegra Collins, Bill Flythe, Dr. Kyle Horton, Joanne Levitan, Anthony Mascolo, Marilyn Priddy, Tom Simmons, Dr. David Sink, Rebecca Stutts, Charles Warren, and Student Essay winner, Johnny Guadalupe-Shaver.

And, Environmental Row was awesome with Randy Sturgill of OCEANA, Wynn Wagenseil of the Audubon Society, Cath Tourluks of the Chirping Bird Society, Goffinet McLaren of Plastic Free Myrtle Beach, and a great contingent from The Sunset Beach Turtle Patrol. Michelle Robitille Harrison and Barbara Kucinski-Gilbert did an outstanding job of making the environment relevant at our Kids Zone.

Thanks, Neil for the photos and information!
